01.31.11 & 02.07.11

Jan 31, 2011

Well the transfer is over and Elder Herr is leaving me.  Tomorrow morning he's getting on a bus and Thursday my new companion will get here.  Elder Msibi is his name, he's from Swaziland. This last week with Elder Herr was good, I'm gonna miss this kid.  I've learned so much from him and he is a great missionary.  This evening we're gonna cook up a whole bunch of meat for him and have a nice little feast.  It'll be good!!  Until Elder Msibi gets here an Elder in Busia, Elder Baldwin, will be my companion for a couple days since we're both waiting for new comps.  He's a new kid from Vegas, he's only been out for about 3 months.  Elder Herr and I extended a bunch of baptismal dates this last week so next month should be a good one.   This area is great for missionary work, there are so many people to teach and so much work to do.  I like this place, it's beautiful.  Two of Elder and Sister Fox's daughters are here this weekend and I'm sure that they are loving it.  We saw them all on a boda boda this morning and I just had to laugh, I could just picture mom and dad on a boda going down the road. haha That would just be too funny to see. ( oh a boda boda is a guy on a bike with a little seat on the back and that's where you sit. there are little pegs on the axles for your feet. so you sit on the seat and the man will take you where ever you want to go.  just bargain with him for the price and away you go )  it's one of my favorite methods of transportation.  We had a stake conference this week, it was a broadcast that was for about half of africa.  President Packer and Elder Oaks and Sister Dibbs and Elder Golden were the speakers.  It was a great meeting and i really liked it.  I learned four things that we all need to be doing everyday as members of the church.  1. pray morning and night.   2. read the Book of Mormon.  3. Smile.  4.  keep the Commandments willingly ( i think thats what it was, the cd was a little scratched.) Try to apply them and let me know how it goes.  I'll be doing the same. Well i hope that you all have a great week.  Remember that i love you all!!

sorry that the email didn't work last week, i feel bad. i sent it again so i hope it works this week. This last week went by quick. Elder Herr left for Nairobi on Tuesday morning and Elder Msibi arrived thursday afternoon. I'm gonna miss Elder Herr, he's a great friend. Elder Msibi is from Swaziland. He's 24 yrs old and he's a great missionary, he just hit his year mark at the end of Dec. Very humble and solemn. but he's so funny and he's a great friend. We're gonna have fun together and have success at the same time. This sunday Brother Isack bore his testimony, he was the one who was just baptized last month. He told us about how before his baptism he had an ear problem and that he needed surgery to fix it and all. Well when he was baptized a miracle occured and his ears were healed. he was telling us all how his kids are amazed at how he can now hear what they say to him and all. I didn't even realize that he had a hearing problem but i guess i just thought he was just like any other old man. it's amazing to know and to be apart of miracles. This really is a living church. miracles do follow the believers. I've thought a lot about miracles in my own life and how they are there everyday. I was challenged at the beginning of my mission to look for a new miracle and a blessing everyday and I've always found them, if i look for them. the Lord really is with us and he wants the best for us. Most of the time miracles aren't huge and glamorous, but they are there. Some times we feel alone or abandoned, but in reality the Lord is there, right beside us helping us to have experiences that will help us to progress and to become more than we are now, to become more like Him. This church isn't here to just to sit and look pretty, it's here to help us to progress and to bring to pass His "work and glory" The big question is whether or not we will take advantage of what He has given us and do what He's asked. As a loving Father, i can't imagine that he would do anything that would intentionally hurt us. Hardships and trials are here to help us, they can turn into miracles in our lives because of the results of the situation. But the results lie with us, what we do matters, not only in our personal lives, but in the lives of those around us. What we do affects those we love the most. Remember, "faith without works is dead" and "action speaks louder than words." It's my prayer that we all do what is necessary for us to be worthy and guided by the spirit everyday of our lives. As we do that, we have the promised protection from on high, all of life's hardships can be overcome and we can find strength in the atoning sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ. i love you all and i hope that you have a great week.
Love
